Car overturns in crash that closed Nottinghamshire bypass

Emergency services have reopened a Nottinghamshire bypass after a car overturned in a collision near Mansfield. The eastbound carriageway of Rainworth Bypass was closed for around an hour from around 12.55pm on Saturday, December 3, as a result of the crash.

Police said one car was involved, resulting in one person suffering minor injuries. Photos from the scene show a smashed black car overturned in the right-hand lane, with significant damage also caused to the fence bordering the carriageway.

A Nottinghamshire Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to the A617 Kirklington Road, Rainworth Bypass, following reports of a single-car collision. The incident took place at around 12.55pm today, and left one person with minor injuries.

“One side of the carriageway was closed for around an hour but has since reopened. Anyone who saw what happened is asked to call the police on 101, quoting incident 324 of 3 December 2022.”

Ashfield Fire Station, which uploaded the images of the scene, stated: "Firefighters from Ashfield and Mansfield responded to an RTC on the Rainworth Bypass. 1 side of the carriageway is currently closed. Please slow down on the approaches." Inrix added: "Road cleared and traffic returned to normal, overturned car removed on A617 Rainworth Bypass Eastbound at Rainworth Village Turn off."
