Car located after woman dies in suspected hit-and-run incident near Toowoomba

A police officer inspects the site of a suspected hit-and-run in Oakey, near Townsville on Saturday. (ABC News: Lucas Hill)

Police are speaking with the driver of a car believed to be involved in a suspected hit-and-run in the southern Queensland town of Oakey.

The body of a 47-year-old woman was found on the side of Four AK Road in the town, north-west of Toowoomba, just before 8am on Saturday.

Investigators believe she may have been struck by a car between midnight and 8am.

A tip-off from a member of the public led police to the vehicle suspected to be involved in the incident.

The driver is assisting police with their enquiries.
