Car left burnt out wreck after M56 crash - the driver miraculously survived and is now under arrest

A driver made a miraculous escape after his car burst into flames when it crashed on the M56.

Police were called to the smash on the motorway, close to junction 2 for Sharston, overnight.

Officers say a Ford Fiesta had lost control before colliding with a barrier and striking the central reservation.

The car vehicle burst into flames on impact.

The driver managed to flee the burning vehicle and was left with only minor injuries.

He was arrested by police and failed a breath test in custody.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash and no one else was involved.

Officers from Greater Manchester Police's Traffic team shared an image of the burned out vehicle on Twitter

They said: "ME58 attended this RTC on the M56 WB (J2).

"The driver of the (what was) a Ford Fiesta ST lost control & collided with the barrier after striking the central res, vehicle burst into flames on impact.

"Driver was arrested & provided a positive breath sample in custody.

"Thankfully, no other vehicles or persons were involved.

"The driver managed to self extract before the vehicle engulfed in flames and surprisingly only sustained minor injuries.

"He is now awaiting charge in Custody."
