A car involved in an early-morning crash, which claimed the life a teenage boy and injured five others, had come to the attention of Gardaí beforehand.
A male passenger aged in his teens was killed in the two-vehicle collision that took place on the M8 at Ballybeg in Mitchelstown, Co Cork at approximately 1am this Saturday morning.
Four other occupants of the car in which the deceased was a passenger suffered non-life threatening injuries in the crash. They included the driver, a male youth in his teens, and three other passengers - an adult male aged in his teens, a female youth aged in her teens and a male youth. The injured parties were all transported to Cork University Hospital.

The driver of the second car, a female aged in her 30s, was rushed to CUH, where she is being treated for serious injuries.
CorkBeo reports that one of the cars involved in the collision had come to the attention of Gardaí prior to the fatal crash.
It's understood the incident has been referred to the Garda Ombudsman, GSOC, because a vehicle involved in the collision was "subject to an interaction" with Gardaí shortly beforehand.
Investigating Gardaí have issued an appeal for information in relation to the collision.
"Gardaí are appealing to anyone with information to come forward to them," a Garda spokesperson told The Irish Mirror.
"Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have video footage (including dash-cam) is asked to contact Gardaí.
