Police have launched a probe into a "suspicious" blaze after a car was ravaged by flames on a quiet residential street in Inverness.
The incident took place shortly after midnight when a vehicle caught fire on Benula Road in the city.
Footage taken at the scene, which was shared by a concerned resident on social media, shows clouds of thick, black smoke billowing from the motor while the inferno rages and debris spits from the wreckage.
The car sits dangerously close to others parked on the street, although only the shell of it appears to remain. In another video, firefighters can be seen hosing down the car in a desperate attempt to extinguish the flames.
Emergency services, including Police Scotland, were scrambled to the scene, and a number of blue-lit cop cars and officers can be seen standing guard, gesturing for neighbours to move away from the area as they look on in horror.
It is understood that although no one was hurt as a result of the dramatic event, the car suffered 'significant damage'. Police say they are treating the incident as suspicious, and a probe has been launched.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 0.20 am on Monday, 12 September, 2022, police were called to a car on fire outside flats on Benula Road, Inverness.
"No one was injured but the car was significantly damaged. Officers are treating the fire as suspicious and enquiries are continuing."
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson added: “We were alerted at 00.16am on Monday, September 12 to a report of a car alight in Benula Road, Inverness.
"Operations Control mobilised two appliances to the scene and crews extinguished the fire and made the area safe."
