Car blown up on Scots street as cops probe terrifying blaze

A car was deliberately set on fire in Fife last night with a police investigation now under way.

Residents on the Main Street of Oakley, near Dunfermline, were stunned to see the vehicle engulfed in flames at around 9.40pm.

Emergency services raced to the scene as the fire sent smoke billowing into the sky.

Firefighters tackled the blaze, which cops are now saying is being treated as wilful.

Enquiries are ongoing to establish what happened.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers were called to reports of a vehicle on fire on Blairwood Walk, Oakley at around 10.10pm on Wednesday, 20 April, 2022.

“It is being treated as wilful and enquiries are ongoing.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue service spokesperson previously said: "We were alerted to reports of a car on fire on the main road of Oakley at 9.40pm this evening.

"One appliance is currently on the scene to extinguish the fire."
