Car crashes into front of Boris Johnson's London £1.3m townhouse

A car crashed into Prime Minister Boris Johnson 's south London townhouse worth £1.3million yesterday.

Pictures captured at the scene show a black Vauxhall Astra ploughed into a tree in the front garden of the four-bed home that the PM bought with his partner Carrie Johnson in 2019. Neighbours have described the incident, which took place at around 1am on Monday (9 May), as sounding like 'thunder'. The residential street has reportedly long had a problem with drivers speeding along it, using it as a rat run.

A small ornamental pillar in the front garden was knocked over in the crash, with damage to the hedges and a tree. Debris from the crash was also left strewn across the driveway and towards the road. Police has said no offences were committed in the crash and the driver has been treated for a minor injury. The car was eventually towed away at 5pm.

The property in Camberwell, south London, is said to be coming towards the end of a six-month long refurbishment. Carrie was reportedly seen assessing the works on the house last month, but the PM - who also owns a detached house with a tennis court and pool in Oxfordshire - has not been seen there for two years.

A spokesperson for the Met police said: "At 01:19hrs on Monday, 9 May police were called following reports of a road traffic collision. Officers attended and found a car that had struck the exterior of a property causing minor damage.

"The driver of the car sustained a minor injury and was assessed by paramedics but did not require hospital treatment. No offences were identified."
