Car crashes into Albany home, leaving trail of destruction and debris

Albany resident Keith Olson is amazed a driver, whose vehicle ploughed through his property and into two parked cars overnight, is alive.

Police are investigating after a blue Ford Falcon crashed into the Albany Highway property about 2am on Sunday.

Tyre marks indicate it crossed several verges and a side street before smashing through Mr Olson's fence and hedge.

It then ploughed through his verandah and stairs, crashing into his parked four-wheel-drive and damaging the front wall of a neighbour's property.

The vehicle was eventually wedged on top of Mr Olson's Toyota LandCruiser and a neighour's car.

Debris from the crash was flung more than 200 metres down the road.

Trail of damage and debris

Mr Olson, who has lived at the property on the corner of Wellington Street for 15 years, said he woke to a loud bang and his house shaking.

"It sounded catastrophic," he said.

"I opened the front door, looked out, [and] I was amazed at the extent of damage.

"Stairs had disappeared, [the] vehicle was no longer in the driveway, just wood and debris everywhere."

Mr Olson said he feared the worst but checked on the driver, who was conscious and freed himself from the vehicle.

"I don't know how he didn't get hurt, it amazes me looking at the damage," he said.

He then checked on his neighbour, who miraculously escaped the flying debris that lodged in her bedroom.

"She had a piece of jarrah timber, which was part of my stairs, come through the wall of her bedroom and lodge itself in the wardrobe in her room, that was close to her bed where she was sleeping," he said.
