The road was closed in both directions near the Queens Drive junction. Police confirmed the two drivers suffered minor injuries, but nobody is said to have suffered major injuries.
A witness told the ECHO the collision happened when the two vehicles tried to evade each other with one car turning onto Allerton Road from Queensdale Road.
Vehicles were placed behind a cordon as officers worked at the scene before the road was reopened in the afternoon.
North West Ambulance Service has been contacted for comment.
