A car has caught fire on the sixth floor of a Glasgow city centre car park.

The incident happened at around 5.50pm this evening (December 19) when fire crews rushed to Q-Park on Sauchiehall Street after the alarm was raised. The area was cordoned off to busy shoppers while firefighters tackled the blaze.

The Daily Record reports that Pure Gym on Bath Street was evacuated while emergency services dealt with the incident. Pictures taken from the scene show firefighters talking to passers-by.

The fire is understood to have now been extinguished with crews ensuring the blaze did not spread to other parked vehicles. Police Scotland is also helping to identify the owner of the car.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "We received a report of a car on fire on the sixth floor of the multi-story Q-Park on Sauchiehall Street at around 5.50pm on Monday, December 19.

"We sent three appliances and remain at the scene as we check for fire spread and any damage to other vehicles. Police have been requested for vehicle identification but the fire has been extinguished. There are no reported casualties."
