Car 'bursts into flames' outside Scots school as fire crews rush to blaze

Firefighters have scrambled to a blaze outside a Scots high school after a vehicle 'burst into flames'.

Crews descended onto Station Road, near Lochgelly High School in Fife, after receiving the alarm at 1.30pm today. One fire engine was sent to the scene to contain the flames.

Dramatic images from the incident show thick pockets of smoke pouring from the car and into the sky. The fire is pictured coming from the engine area of the car.

One eyewitness told how the car erupted into flames on the street.

He said: “I was passing when it happened. The guy was in total shock. It just burst into flames.”

There were no reported injuries.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 1.30pm on Thursday, September 29 to a report of a car alight in Station Road, Lochgelly. Operations Control mobilised one appliance to the scene and the crew extinguished the fire and made the area safe."

Officers from Police Scotland confirmed they assisted SFRS by providing traffic management.
