The car brands most likely to fail the NCT have been revealed.
The figures provided for 2021 by cartakeback.ie. show the top 5 reasons why a car fails the NCT as well as the car brands most likely to run into issues.
When looking at the major reasons for a car failing the NCT, front suspension came out on top with almost 7% of total failures last year.
In second place was beams with 6.02% of failures.
Brake lines/hoses were responsible for 5.03% of failures, while mechanical brake components and steering linkage were liable for 4.06% and 3.95% of NCT failures.
Here are the top five brands of cars that fail the NCT along with their failure rate:
- Chevrolet (68%)
- Citroen (58%)
- Vauxhall (56%)
- Alfa Romeo (55%)
- Daihatsu (55%)
There are a lot of variables that go into a car failing the NCT including vehicle age, mileage and usage which all play a key role.
The car brands that recorded the most NCT passes are:
- Porsche (62%)
- Lexus (62%)
- Dacia (61%)
- Skoda (60%)
- Hyundai (60%)
The top 5 failure hotspots in Ireland were also revealed.
Thankfully Dublin did not make the list but here are the places in Ireland that saw the highest failure rate:
- Castlerea (62%)
- Cavan (60%)
- Clifden (57%)
- Carlow (56%)
- Derrybeg (55%)
