A car has been torched outside a Kilmarnock home in the early hours of this morning.
Detectives are investigating the deliberate fire that took place in Newland Place in Onthank around 2am while residents slept.
The white Kia Venga was well ablaze when Scottish Fire and Rescue crews were called to the scene.
Officers have confirmed this morning that the inferno didn't spread to the house and no one was in the car at the time of the terrifying incident.
Firefighters have extinguished the blaze and police are now treating the fire as wilful.
Detective constable Ross Brierley, Kilmarnock CID, said: "The car was parked in the drive of the house when it was set alight. Thankfully the fire did not spread to the house and the occupants were not injured, however, the car has been extensively damaged.
"Officers are carrying out door to door enquiries and checking local CCTV in the area but would appeal to anyone who may have seen people acting suspiciously around the vehicle or in the area between 1.45 am and 2am to get in touch. We would ask that if you have any private CCTV or doorbell cameras, that the footage is checked just in case anything relevant has been captured.
"If you have any information that you think may assist officers with their enquiries, then please call police via 101 quoting reference number 0315 of Thursday, June 2. Details can also be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
The blaze is the latest in a series of deliberate fires in the town in recent weeks.
We told you at the weekend that yobs set fire to a house in New Farm after torching a fly-tipped bed.
A man has also been arrested in connection with two fires in Kilmarnock town centre on Friday, May 20.
