Hosts Cameroon will look to make it three straight wins at the Africa Cup of Nations when they face Cape Verde in their final Group A contest on Monday afternoon.

The Indomitable Lions have already guaranteed their spot in the last-16 with a match to spare after following a hard-fought opening win over Burkina Faso with a comfortable rout of Ethiopia in Yaounde.

Former FC Porto star Vincent Aboubakar has been central to Cameroon’s fortunes at their delayed home tournament so far, scoring a brace in each impressive victory.

Toni Conceicao’s side will hope to keep their momentum going against a Cape Verde team that also have designs on the knockout rounds.

The three-time AFCON qualifiers - who reached the quarter-finals in 2013 - opened their campaign with a 1-0 win over Ethiopia before suffering a likely costly defeat by Burkina Faso on Thursday.

Date, kick-off time and venue

Cape Verde vs Cameroon is scheduled for a 4pm GMT kick-off on Monday January 17, 2022.

The match will take place at Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in the Cameroonian capital of Yaounde.

Cape Verde vs Cameroon team news

Cameroon could be tempted to rest players for the knockout stages with progress already secured, with the likes of Aboubakar and Karl Toko Ekambi crucial to their chances of a sixth AFCON title and first since 2017.

Former Tottenham forward Clinton Njie - who now plays his club football in Russia with Dynamo Moscow - could be among those to come in if Conceicao does decide to make changes after being limited to two substitute appearances at the tournament so far.

As for Cape Verde, striker Julio Tavares could miss out through injury.

Cape Verde vs Cameroon prediction

Cameroon have the familiar host nation momentum behind them and look a force to be reckoned with at this tournament, with the ultra-confident Aboubakar leading the way.

A few likely changes could disrupt their rhythm, but they should still have too much for Cape Verde to handle.

The Blue Sharks’ best hope of reaching the last-16 was getting a decent result against Burkina Faso and qualification now looks a very tall order, but this AFCON has already been littered with shocks so don’t rule it out.

Cameroon to win 2-0.
