Tokyo Games Show is currently happening, and we’re seeing huge announcements from some of the biggest publishers in the world. Capcom’s stream just wrapped up, and it included a blowout of information for some of the publisher’s biggest franchises, including loads of information on the upcoming Street Fighter 6.
If you want the essential information as fast as possible, just take a look at our breakdown of the biggest announcements below.
Monster Hunter Rise Free Title Update 2 launches September 29
The first announcement of the Capcom showcase was more information on Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak’s second Free Title Update. There are new layered armor sets, mew weapons, and a bunch of optional paid DLC. The biggest and most beastly updates are the new monsters though, and we’ll have Violet Mizutsune, Flaming Espinas, and Risen Chameleos on September 29, with even more coming in November.
Resident Evil Showcase coming in October
We saw more about the huge upcoming Resident Evil Village update, titled the Winters Expansion, which is launching soon, and includes a third-person perspective to make gameplay more like the other Resident Evil games available on modern consoles. To expand the series, RE8 is launching on Mac, while Nintendo Switch is getting cloud versions of the modern titles. More on Resident Evil 4 and the future of the franchise will be unveiled at a Resident Evil Showcase stream next month.
Street Fighter 6 blowout shows off new modes and characters
Street Fighter 6 has shown off footage of Ken, Blanka, Dhalsim, and E. Honda in action, but that wasn’t enough. We now have more information on all three of the main game modes in SF6: Fighting Ground, World Tour, and Battle Hub. Fighting Ground seems to include the Street Fighter staples, in addition to Extreme Battle, and a bunch of other slightly goofy modes. World Tour is a meaty single-player adventure where you customize your character. Finally, Battle Hub acts as a digital arcade for online battles.
Street Fighter 5 Closed Beta Test coming next month
One more big piece of Street Fighter 6 info: a Closed Beta Test is coming next month, and will stretch from October 7 to 10, and will allow for crossplay on PS5, Xbox Series, and Steam. World Tour won’t be available during the CBT, but online modes and the new Extreme Battle will be available for players to try, as long as they get into the beta.
Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection coming 2023 with online multiplayer
We already knew about the Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection (a mouthful of a title), but the package of ten classic games is now confirmed to be receiving online multiplayer. Online battles and chip trading are the focus, opening up the potential of the game and the community massively. You also get a virtual Mega Man companion to talk you through the collection, and will even comment on your progress through the games. Very cool. The only questionable piece of info is that the games will be released in two volumes. Hmm.
