Capcom has announced its first Capcom Spotlight event of 2023, which promises new looks at Resident Evil 4, Exoprimal and more.
Capcom Spotlight is Capcom’s version of the Nintendo Direct format. It's proven to be incredibly successful, with companies like Sony, Square Enix, and Microsoft jumping on the trend. Capcom took to it’s official Twitter account to announce the event, promising new looks at upcoming titles like Resident Evil 4, Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection, and an update on Monster Hunter Rise.
Notably absent from the list is Street Fighter 6, which launches on June 2, 2023, but considering that game showed off its final three fighters for the base roster at the PlayStation State of Play February 2023 event, it makes sense there wouldn't be news here.
Capcom Spotlight: start time
The Capcom Spotlight is set to take place on Thursday, March 9. The main event will start at 10:30pm GMT / 5:30pm ET / 2:30pm PT. There will also be a short pre-show at 10:10pm GMT / 5:10pm ET / 2:10pm PT. Capcom didn’t elaborate on what this pre-show will contain, but considering the main show starts only 20 minutes later we can’t imagine it will be too substantial. The event is set to last approximately 26 minutes, not including the pre-show.
Capcom Spotlight: how to watch
Capcom will be streaming the event on its YouTube channel, as well as its Facebook and Twitter channels if that’s of any interest.
You can also watch the stream right here, as we’ve gone to the trouble of embedding it below for easy access.
Capcom Spotlight: what to expect
Capcom has announced that we’ll be seeing Resident Evil 4 remake, Exoprimal, Monster Hunter Rise, Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection and Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective. All of these games have been previously announced (or released, in Monster Hunter Rise’s case). We can make a few guesses at what exactly we’ll see for a few of the titles however.
Resident Evil 4 remake
The Resident Evil 4 remake also featured at February's PlayStation State of Play, showing off the island section from the finale of the game, so we doubt there will be another major trailer. However, it was announced that a pre-release demo and the Mercenaries mode will be returning as DLC. Perhaps we will see news on both of those at this Capcom Spotlight.
Monster Hunter Rise
Monster Hunter Rise’s final update is set to launch this spring, so we may hear about it here. What’s most likely however is the announcement of when the Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak expansion will be released for Xbox and PlayStation platforms, as it only launched for PC and Nintendo Switch back in June, 2022.
Exoprimal
Capcom’s new co-op dino-blaster Exoprimal is set to launch this year but we don’t have a release date yet, so there's a chance we could get that at the Capcom Spotlight. A beta test announcement for the game so the public can try it out before the game releases would also be nice.
Surprises
We could see the first batch of Street Fighter 6 DLC announced, or even a new beta test announced for it. Or perhaps we can see Pragmata, the game that showed up at the PS5 reveal stream and has had no news aside from delays since but is still set for release this year.
Here's hoping Capcom has an ace up their sleeve, but even if it's just these five games, it should be a good stream.
