Cannes 2022: 'The Stranger' offers a dark perspective on a true crime story

ENCORE! © FRANCE 24

With all eyes on the official competition at the 75th Cannes Film Festival, it’s easy to miss the offbeat, independent films that are not vying for the Palme d'Or. FRANCE 24's Olivia Salazar-Winspear tells us about an Australian feature from Thomas M. Wright showing in the "Un Certain Regard" sidebar selection, which sees Joel Edgerton give a compelling performance as an undercover police officer involved in a black ops sting.

We also hear about the artistic differences that saw Cambodian filmmaker Rithy Panh step down as president of a jury at Cannes, before being reinstated.

Plus, Jerzy Skolimowski’s "EO" tells the visually captivating story of a donkey’s journey from Poland to Italy and raises important ethical questions about the treatment of animals.
