Canelo Alvarez set for $85m two-fight deal including Gennady Golovkin bout

Canelo Alvarez could face Gennady Golovkin in a long-awaited trilogy fight as the Mexican is close to accepting an $85million offer from Matchroom Boxing.

Pound-for-pound No.1 Alvarez was offered a two-fight deal by Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn last month that would begin with a world title fight against Russian star Dmitry Bivol before a third clash with Golovkin.

ESPN has now revealed the offer, in which Alvarez will compete exclusively on DAZN, is worth a massive $85million.

The deal has not been agreed to nor signed, but the report states "negotiations are approaching the finish line".

Alvarez is currently a free agent and has also received a one-fight offer from PBC and Showtime to face middleweight champion Jermall Charlo.

If the Mexican star is to accept Hearn's offer, he would be scheduled to meet the light heavyweight titleholder Bivol on May 7 - two days after Cinco De Mayo - in a return to 175 pounds.

Alvarez became a four-weight world champion in 2019 when he moved up to light heavyweight and knocked out Sergey Kovalev to win the WBO belt.

Bivol was promoted to WBA champion at 175-pounds in 2017 after winning the interim title and the Russian has since defended his belt eight times in four years.

The 31-year-old has defeated the likes of former British champion Craig Richards and disgraced Jean Pascal since winning his world title.

The report states that if Alvarez gets past Bivol, he would defend his undisputed 168-pound titles for the first time against Golovkin on September 17.

It would mark almost four years to the date that Alvarez won a majority decision against 'Triple G' in their controversial rematch.

The top middleweights first fought to a split draw in 2017, with judge Adelaide Byrd being slammed for her 118-110 scorecard in favour of Alvarez.

Golovkin's longtime trainer coach Abel Sanchez would even claim that Byrd, who is no stranger to a controversial verdict, had filled out her scorecard before the fight started.

Alvarez signed a $365 million deal with DAZN after his 2018 win over 'Triple G', later suing the streaming service and longtime promoter Oscar De La Hoya.

Before he can entertain a trilogy with his rival, 39-year-old Golovkin must first get past Ryota Murata in a 160-pound title unification fight in spring.

Alvarez signed a one-fight deal with PBC for his 11th-round TKO of Caleb Plant last November, earning $40 million for the undisputed win.

The Mexican's last three bouts before that were promoted by Matchroom boss Hearn.
