Canelo Alvarez chasing 'impossible' PGA Tour dream as he opens up on Tiger Woods wish

Boxing star Canelo Alvarez has revealed he has plans to one day put down his gloves and pursue a career in the world of golf, after setting his sights on a spot on the PGA Tour.

Canelo has cemented himself as a boxing great during his career, donning an impressive 59-2-2 professional record at the age of 32. Having reached the top of the game in the ring, the Mexican star has also set his sights on one day doing similar in professional golf.

Alvarez has made no secret of his love for golf, and has featured in a number of PGA Tour pro-am events alongside some of the world's best players.

The 32-year-old himself is a handy player, revealing he dropped his handicap down to six before recently jumping back up to 10 after returning his focus back to boxing. Despite this, Alvarez is keen to once again work on his golf game, after revealing to the Daily Mail he has an 'impossible dream' to make it to the PGA Tour.

Impossible may well be the right word, with those competing on golf's leading circuit work tirelessly since their youth to make it to the big time - similarly to Alvarez's efforts in the ring. The Mexican though has admitted he is more than aware of the task at hand.

"This is the hardest game ever," he said. "Well, golf is harder for me. I’ve boxed since I was a kid. Comes easy to me. It is harder to be consistent at golf. One shot can be great but the next terrible. One round great, next day horrible. One tiny alteration in making the shot can mean a big difference."

The boxing star went on: "We’ll see. It would be amazing if I could make the Tour. Fantastic if I ever got to play in a major. Almost everyone says it can’t be done because I started the game so late." In a bid to get to the top one man Alvarez has been studying is the great Tiger Woods, who he hopes he can join on the course one day.

"I study Tiger’s swing," Alvarez added. "Perfection. Only ever changes for a reason like some specific shot. I would love to play a round with Mr Woods one day." Whilst he is yet to come across Woods, one man the Mexican has impressed is current world No. 1 Jon Rahm.

Discussing Alvarez's solid golf technique, Rahm commented: "Canelo is great at one sport and can be great in a second sport. It’s just not fair." Revealing he shares a good relationship with the Spaniard, the boxer responded: "Jon is a friend. I love him for saying that. And I have to say I put so much into everything I do that I actually believe I can be great at anything."
