Canelo Alvarez 'believes he can beat' Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua

Canelo Alvarez believes that he could beat Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua if he fought the two massive heavyweights, according to promoter Eddie Hearn.

The Matchroom Boxing boss worked three times with Alvarez in his last four fights, helping him to pick up almost all of the belts on his path to the undisputed title at super middleweight.

And he believes, based on discussions they have had around his next fight plans, that Alvarez sees himself winning a prospective super-fight with unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk.

Alvarez has been approved by the World Boxing Council to face their cruiserweight champion Ilunga Makabu, and Hearn says the Mexican believes he could beat the weight class' former champion Usyk.

“He thinks he’s completely unbeatable, and he thinks he can beat Usyk,” Hearn said during an appearance on The MMA Hour.

“I guess he thinks he can beat AJ, that’s just his mentality.

"He’s so good, arguably the best fighter I’ve ever seen up close, but even across the generations."

Hearn promoted Alvarez's title unification bout with Callum Smith in December 2020 before putting on his mandatory title defence against Avnyi Yildrim the following February.

But their crowning achievement together as promoter and fighter was his fight with Billy Joe Saunders last May, where Alvarez won yet another belt in front of a record-breaking 73,126 fans.

No fight in history had drawn a crowd that big for an indoor event in America, and it cemented the relationship between Hearn And Alvarez.

However, the Mexican has insisted on remaining a free agent and ditched Hearn for his undisputed fight against Caleb Plant in November.

But they could work together again, should Hearn offer him the right fights and an intriguing financial package.

“When I got to work with him, we did Saunders, we broke the indoor attendance record in Dallas," Hearn added. "It was a dream come true, really.

“I don’t want to sound like a fan-boy, but if we can get his signature for a couple of fights, I’d be over the moon."

Alvarez is one of the richest athletes in the world, and while money is an important factor, legacy will also prove vital when it comes to making his next fight.

Hearn wants to work together with Gennady Golovkin for a trilogy bout between the pair for Alvarez's undisputed super-middleweight belt, after fighting Dmitry Bivol at light heavyweight.

“It really comes down to money, of course, but also what he and Eddy Reynoso fancy, what they like. They’ve got all the money, they’ve got all the legacy, they’ve got all the belts.

“Canelo lives for the challenge, and it’ll come down to the fight he likes," Hearn continued. "The Golovkin fight is still the biggest in boxing; it’s the trilogy for the undisputed championship.

“Bivol is a great fight at 175 if he moves up and tries to become undisputed at light heavyweight. Charlo is another good fight, Benavidez; there are loads of fights.

“He’s earned the right to call the shots, and for me, it’s a dream working with him.

"When you’re around a fighter like Canelo, you start to realise the importance of confidence and mindset of a fighter."
