Candles and flowers left for teen killed in crash as murder probe launched

Floral tributes have been left at the scene of a tragic crash in St Helens.

A 17-year-old boy, Harley Lea, died after being involved in a crash close to the junction of Park Road and Boardmans Lane in the early hours of Tuesday, October 4. The victim was riding a motorcycle at the time of the crash.

Merseyside police have reported that a car hit two motorcycles and that three people were rushed to hospital. Harley was pronounced dead a short time later.

The two men, aged 20 and 23, were seriously injured and taken to hospital for treatment. Candles and flowers have now been left at the scene of the crash while tributes have been posted online.

Shania Obrien said: "Can’t believe it R.I.P Harley literally was speaking to you yesterday morning, what the hell." Lyndsey Suzanne Harris added: "Life is so cruel. RIP Harley Lea. Thoughts are with the family at this sad time."

Keeley Walker said: "R.I.P Harley gone but never forgotten. Forever young, you was an amazing young man you will be missed." Keeley added: "Harley was a lovely lad who was always polite to me and took the time to see how I was or my kids."

Writing on the ECHO's Facebook page, Gemma Childs said: "RIP Harley, taken to soon." Another person said: "RIP Harley Lea gone but never forgotten lad." One other person added: "Rest easy Harley bro."

A 19-year-old man and 24-year-old man, from St Helens, have both been arrested on suspicion of murder and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. The men are both currently in custody where they will be questioned by detectives.

Detective Chief Inspector John Fitzgerald said: "The investigation is in the very early stages as we seek to establish what has taken place. We are reviewing CCTV and appealing for anyone who was in the area of Boardmans Lane and Park Road in the early hours to contact us.

"Anyone who believes they have captured something significant on their dash cam or mobile phone is also asked to get in touch as they may have information which is vital to the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to DM @MerPolCC or contact @CrimestoppersUK on 0800 555 111 quoting reference 22000732165."
