Canberra woman Lila Walto pleads guilty to ramming ACT corrective services vehicle to break partner out of jail

Dashcam footage of Lila Walto ramming a corrective services car with a stolen 4WD.

A woman who rammed a stolen car into a corrective services vehicle carrying her fiance, helping him escape, has pleaded guilty to a raft of charges in the ACT Magistrates Court.

Lila Walto, 29, went on the run with Kane Quinn after extracting him from a car being driven by corrections officers.

Court documents revealed Walto stole a four-wheel-drive vehicle during a test drive, leaving the car salesman beside the Majura Parkway.

Not long afterwards, Walto came up behind the car carrying her fiance and three officers and rammed it several times from behind.

Her fiance was on the way to a health appointment at the time.

The court heard Walto continued to follow the corrections car into a street near Manuka Shops.

Eventually, Mr Quinn got out of the car with the officers and tried to run away, yelling:

But he later got into the four-wheel drive and fled with Walto, sparking a city-wide manhunt.

The car was found later in the day, on fire in the nearby suburb of Forrest.

Escapee found hiding in roof

Walto was arrested after police conducted a search on a home in Lyneham, in Canberra's north.

While police were there, they said they heard noises from the roof.

Documents tendered to the court revealed there were protracted negotiations between officers and the people at the home, with a voice allegedly calling out from inside:

Police said they could also hear power tools being used in the crawl space before a man eventually emerged from the house, still wearing some of his restraints.

The police case also included phone calls recorded at the jail between the pair.

In one call, Mr Quinn asks Walto: "did you end up getting a car?" and "so, everything is ready?"

Walto responds by saying, "yeah" before saying, "Yeah baby, everything is ready for me and your mum to have dinner tonight".

Walto told police she had planned to run away with her fiance and start a new life.

Walto will be sentenced by the ACT Supreme Court later this year.

Mr Quinn is fighting the charges.
