A 25-year-old Canberra man who allegedly used Snapchat to track down a child has been denied bail in the ACT Magistrates Court.
Samuel Doughty allegedly had sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old girl and committed acts of indecency against a 13-year-old girl.
He applied for bail but it was denied on the risk of reoffending and the risk he posed to the community.
The lawyers prosecuting Mr Doughty said he had made sustained attempts to contact the girls online, and the 14-year-old girl had allegedly told him her age before he engaged in intercourse with her.
Prosecutors argued Mr Doughty put children at risk, and said he had "shown ability to target and gain access to young people via social media".
The court heard there are as many as 12 others who allege he assaulted them and further charges are expected to be laid.
Chief Magistrate Lorraine Walker said she was concerned by the allegations against Mr Doughty.
"Of course, the age of the young person would've made it impossible to consent in any circumstance," she said.
"Particularly tracing one of them through Snap Map is highly concerning."
Chief Magistrate Walker said the risk Mr Doughty posed to the community was significant.
He was denied bail and is expected to return to court later this month.
