Canadian woman named as second victim of fatal smash on Scots country road

Police have named a 72-year-old Canadian woman as the second victim of a crash on a road in the Scottish Highlands after she succumbed to her injuries in hospital.

Donna Englebert, from Canada, was a passenger in a black Kia Sportage which collided with a silver Kia Venga on the A832 at Dundonnell at around 11.30am on Wednesday August 31. She was airlifted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary but tragically died on Saturday September 10.

She is the second person to have died following the collision, which also claimed the life of 69-year-old Kenneth Gillon. Donna's family have asked for privacy at this time.

Sergeant Calum MacAulay, from the Dingwall Road Policing Unit, said: “At this time, our thoughts remain with Donna’s loved ones as they come to terms with their terrible loss. We are continuing our enquiries to establish the full circumstances of the incident and would ask anyone who has not yet come forward with information to get in touch with police.

"If you believe you can assist our enquiries please call 101, quoting incident 1134 of 31 August."

Kenneth Gillon's family said he will be much missed as a husband, father and ‘Papa’ (Police Scotland)

Kenneth, from Auchterarder, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, around five miles directly south-west of Ullapool. His family have previously paid tribute to their beloved "Papa", who was grandfather to Harriet and Hope and a keen supporter of Dundee United.

The horrific smash closed the road for several hours. The driver of the Kia Venga, a 63-year-old woman, was seriously injured and airlifted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary by air ambulance while a 77-year-old man and a 75-year-old woman were taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness for treatment via ambulance.
