Canada’s new Prime Minister has been celebrated for his promise to take in up to 25,000 refugees, for his pro-choice stance and abortion, and for his open declaration of being a feminist, but now his supporters have uncovered another reason to praise the leader: he used to be a snowboarder.
Mr Trudeau’s supporters have been sharing a picture of the young Prime Minister from 1997, when he was a snowboard instructor at the Whistler-Blackcomb resort in British Columbia, Canada.
One of the leader’s close snowboarding friends – and fellow instructor at the time – said Mr Trudeau is “one of the most dangerous people in the world to snowboard behind,” however.
Sean Smilie told CBC Radio that while the Prime Minister was celebrated for his skill as an instructor and ability to engage the students, he wasn’t always the safest of people to snowboard with.
“As someone who spent a lot of time riding with Justin, it was always touch and go,” Mr Smilie told the radio station.
But the Canadian leader’s supporters will be familiar with his levels of risk when it comes to sports – in 2012 Mr Trudeau won a charity boxing match against Conservative Senator Patrick Brazeau.
