Canadian authorities are warning parents to stop using certain balloon-blowing kits sold on Amazon and other online platforms as they can expose children to dangerous vapors that can cause serious health risks.
Balloon-blowing kits, which allow children to create bubbles using a solvent mixture and a plastic straw, have been banned in Canada under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act due to the chemical hazards they pose, CTV News reported.
Canadian authorities have warned parents to stop using the kits, explaining that dangerous solvent vapors can cause children serious health risks, including hallucinations, dizziness, and even lead them to fall into a coma.
Despite the ban, the kits have recently been sold online by foreign third-party vendors on platforms like Amazon and SHEIN Canada, with over 1,400 units purchased between late 2023 and mid-2024.
Amazon has removed the products from its Canadian site, and third-party sellers have been contacted to cease sales. No injuries or incidents have been reported so far.
Retailers are expected to strengthen their compliance with Canadian safety regulations, while authorities continue to monitor online platforms for banned products.
