BOSTON — A 42-year-old man in Canada has been arrested in connection with making bomb threats that targeted several Boston-area sites, including Boston Children’s Hospital.
Beginning on Sept. 9, a series of bomb threats were sent online to Boston Children’s Hospital. Then over the next four days, several more bomb threats were received at the Prudential Center, Orpheum Theater, Massachusetts General Hospital and Boston Public Library.
All of these threats had similar details and appeared to have originated in Canada, according to Boston Police Department investigators who contacted Canadian authorities and shared their findings with members of the Peterborough Police Service.
The suspect was later identified as Joshua Kimble of Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. Then, Peterborough Police investigators were granted an arrest warrant for the suspect, as well as a search warrant for his residence.
Kimble was later placed under arrest, and he’s currently in custody awaiting trial in Canada.
He’s charged in Canada with 12 counts of public mischief, 12 counts of false information, and one count of failing to comply with a probation order.
Last month, a Westfield woman was arrested in connection with a hoax bomb threat made against Boston Children’s Hospital, according to the U.S. attorney’s office. Catherine Leavy, 37, was charged with one count of explosive materials — willfully making a false bomb threat.
According to the charging documents, federal agents in August began monitoring threats made against Boston Children’s Hospital and its employees. Among the wide range of health care services it provides, Boston Children’s Hospital is home to the Gender Multispecialty Service program — the first major health care program in the U.S. to focus on gender-diverse and transgender adolescents.
