Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has revealed that the proposed tariff on Canadian goods by US President Donald Trump will be put on hold for a minimum of 30 days. This decision comes after a recent phone conversation between Trudeau and Trump.
In return for the temporary suspension of the tariff, Canada has agreed to make significant investments in border security measures. Additionally, a joint effort between Canada and the US, known as the 'Canada-U.S. Joint Strike Force,' will be established to combat organized crime, fentanyl trafficking, and money laundering activities.
Trudeau also announced the appointment of a 'Fentanyl Czar' to oversee efforts in addressing the opioid crisis. Furthermore, both countries will collaborate in designating certain cartels as terrorist organizations.
To reinforce these initiatives, Trudeau disclosed that a new intelligence directive focusing on organized crime and fentanyl has been signed, with a substantial financial commitment of $200 million to support the cause.
