Cammy Devlin wins Lionel Messi shirt lottery as Hearts star lands coveted top swap after World Cup showdown

Lionel Messi will go home with a Gorgie memento from Qatar as Hearts star Cammy Devlin swapped shirts with him at full-time.

Messi made his 1,000th career appearance against the Socceroos as his ludicrous 789th goal for club and country helped them into the quarter-finals. That came at the expense of an Aussie side that had plenty of love in Scotland, with three players from Hearts as well as representatives from Celtic, Dundee United and St Mirren in the squad that narrowly lost out.

Despite their last 16 elimination it was an experience to remember for Australia who rubbed shoulders with some of the best on the planet and made it to the knockout stage for only the second time in their history. And while Tynecastle midfielder Devlin didn't get off the bench in Qatar, he'll certainly have something to remember his first World Cup by.

It was first come, first served as far as Messi's shirt was concerned and while Jason Cummings and Dundee United's Aziz Behich were spotted trying to get a hold of it, Devlin was given the honours. Heartwarming footage posted by the Jambos on social media shows Messi beckoning Devlin over and shaking hands with him before swapping jerseys and making off with his Australia top.

Former Hibs, Rangers and Dundee striker Cummings had to make do with a picture - which his dad David tweeted early on Sunday morning. Cummings earned his second cap for the Socceroos off the bench against Hearts in the first group game but now returns to Central Coast Mariners where he has revitalised his career after a spell at Dens Park.

The SPFL representatives all head home too as Argentina shape up for a mouthwatering quarter-final with the Netherlands. The winners of that could face Brazil in the semi-finals - should they advance past South Korea and either Japan or Croatia in the last eight.
