Cammy Devlin outlines four key Hearts areas of his game to improve after Steven Naismith talks

Cammy Devlin has detailed the FOUR areas of his game Steven Naismith wants him to work on.

The Hearts midfielder has enjoyed a season to remember on a personal level with World Cup experience with Australia and Europa Conference League group stage football at the Jambos on top of 38 club appearances in total to date this campaign as the capital club get ready to face Aberdeen in a massive game in the race for third spot.

It's then a midweek battle under the lights with Rangers at Ibrox before a final day of the season Edinburgh derby in Gorgie in a season-defining week for the men in Maroon. Victory over Barry Robson's men tomorrow cuts the gap to just two points ahead of a massive Scottish Premiership finale. Devlin's full focus is on this upcoming week as he opened up on the demands of Naisy on his game.

In depth discussions over his approach have been had with regular video sessions at Riccarton to identify key areas of improvement. He knows in himself he has so much more to develop and the coaches are helping him in that process. Speaking to Edinburgh Evening News, he explained: “He has been very demanding of me [Steven Naismith], which I think I need.

“There is so much in my game that I need to improve. I know I need to improve. I’ve spoken to Naisy, Gordy [Forrest] and Frankie [McAvoy] in depth. Naisy wants me to be better with the ball, in my movements, my timing and positioning.

“It’s the little things that you don’t really think of. He has pulled me up in videos. The timing of your movements can effect the game so much. It can change the whole dynamic of us getting out and beating a press or, potentially, getting boxed in. I know within myself that there is so much I need to work on and the coaches are helping me.”

He continued: “If you aren’t improving after that then you probably aren’t listening. I’m my own harshest critic. I know when I’ve done well or had a bad game. I watch all the games and all my clips. Working with Naisy, we’ve been diving deeper into my game and picking out things I maybe wasn’t thinking of.”
