Buckingham Palace is reportedly set to call Camilla 'Queen' rather than 'Queen Consort', it has been claimed.
It's has been reported the change will happen after King Charles's coronation in May.
The first sign of a possible change happened last week when Camilla launched the "Queen's Reading Room" after updating the name of her charity from the Duchess of Cornwall.
Some believe the Court Circular, which is the official register of Royal engagements, will soon make the change, the MailOnline reports.
A "well-placed" source told the publication: "There’s a view in the Palace that Queen Consort is cumbersome and it might be simpler for Camilla to be known just as the Queen when the time is right.
"The Reading Room was a sign of that. Her Majesty is the Queen after all.
"Prince Philip was Prince Consort officially, but he wasn’t known as Prince Consort.
"The Queen would of course still be Queen Consort so the Palace of course wouldn’t stop anyone calling Her Majesty that if they so chose."
Referring to Camilla as the Queen has been described as a a sign of the transformation of the nation's affections to the former Duchess of Cornwall.
When she married the then Prince of Wales in 2005, it was the general thought she would never be called Queen when he eventually came to the throne.
This is said because of the longstanding relationship she held with Charles while he was married to Princess Diana, who once claimed there were "three of them" in her marriage.
When Charles became engaged to Camilla, then Parker Bowles, in February 2005 a Buckingham Palace statement said: "It is intended that Mrs Parker Bowles should use the title HRH The Princess Consort when The Prince of Wales accedes to The Throne."
Many believe the late Queen's intervention last year, where she called for her daughter-in-law to be known as 'Queen Consort' was a huge sign of support.
In an official statement released by Buckingham Palace on the 70th anniversary of her accession to the throne, the late monarch said: "It is my sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service."
When Charles and Camilla married in April 2005, she did not take on the title of Princess of Wales, as it was so closely associated Princess Diana.
A Royal source added: "There’s a feeling that the time will come when it’s simpler all round to refer to Camilla simply as our Queen. Until then she will be referred to as Queen Consort."
Some news outlets have already dropped Consort when writing about Camilla.
Explaining The Times’ decision to call Camilla Queen rather than Queen Consort, the newspaper’s archivist Rose Wild said: "For most of us, “the Queen” has meant only one person for as long as we can remember.
"While we were still getting used to the idea of singing “God save the King”, there was some possibility of confusion about who “the Queen” meant in our coverage of her death.
"This was largely resolved by the use of “Queen Consort” to refer to the former Duchess of Cornwall. This wordy solution no longer seems necessary. “Consort” is a description, not a title.
"While all previous wives of kings have been queens consort, none have been referred to as such."
A Buckingham Palace spokesman declined to comment on the claims.
