Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall's agonising health battle left her in agony on wedding day

Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, will be in attendance with other royals in the limited balcony line up for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee  Trooping the Colour parade.

Some royal watchers say the limited line-up today is consistent with a longstanding desire by  Prince Charles to slim down the monarchy.

The Queen, alongside her 73-year-old heir Charles and his wife Camilla, will be in attendance with Prince William, the second in line to the throne, with his wife Kate Middleton  and their three children; and Charles’ siblings, Princess Anne and Prince Edward, along with their spouses.

The tradition of a balcony appearance began with Queen Victoria, who transformed Buckingham Palace into the monarch’s official residence and a royal family home in the 19th century.

For Camilla, an ongoing health condition could plague the Queen Consort on the day, however.

The condition caused Camilla to feel so unwell on the day of her wedding to Prince Charles back in 2005 that she was unable to move, according to Vanity Fair.

Lucia Santa Cruz, the woman who introduced Charles and Camilla to each other said, at the time: “She was really ill, stressed.

“She literally couldn’t get out of bed.”

Poor Camilla was suffering from sinusitis, and only got out of bed when her sister Annabel threatened to wear her wedding outfit.

What is sinusitis?

Sinusitis is swelling of the sinuses, usually caused by an infection.

The condition is said to be common and usually clears up after two to three weeks.

“You can often treat mild sinusitis without seeing a GP,” says the NHS.

“If you have a high temperature or you do not feel well enough to do your normal activities, try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people until you feel better.”

While Camilla has never spoken about her battle with sinusitis, in 2012 she flew to India on a private trip for ayurvedic treatment to clear up her recurrent symptoms.

The Duchess of Cornwall is a fan of Eastern medicine and is no stranger to alternative healing techniques.

During her stay she was checked into Dr Issac Mathai’s Soukhya Holistic Health Centre at Whitefield, where she underwent several ayurveda and naturopathy procedures like yoga, mud therapy and hydro-therapy.

She was also put on a South Indian vegetarian and organic diet, sources told local newspaper The Deccan Herald.
