Cameroon World Cup 2022 guide: Star player, fixtures, squad, one to watch, odds to win

Cameroon qualified for the World Cup after a dramatic play-off win over Algeria.

Their hopes looked to be over when they conceded in the 118th minute, only for Karl Toko Ekambi to strike in the fourth minute of added-time.

They are looking to break a run of seven straight World Cup defeats, and being beaten by South Korea and Uzbekistan in September will not have helped the mood.

Here’s everything you need to know about Cameroon…

Coach: Rigobert Song. Cameroon’s most-capped player. The former Liverpool and West Ham defender has two World Cup red cards to his name.

Captain: Vincent Aboubakar. Top scorer at the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year, the striker’s main hobby appears to be taking swipes at Mohamed Salah.

Star player: Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa. The former Fulham midfielder has played a crucial role in Napoli’s flying start to the season.

One to watch: Bryan Mbeumo. The Brentford forward switched international allegiance from France in the summer.

World ranking: 43

Odds: 300/1

Best thing about them: Have the firepower to cause Serbia and Switzerland problems.

Worst thing about them: With Cameroon FA president Samuel Eto’o increasingly vocal in criticising the team, it would not be particularly surprising should things unravel.

Their prospects in three words: Group exit likely.
