Cameron Young earns Arnold Palmer Award, named PGA Tour’s Rookie of the Year for 2021-22

Cameron Young came oh-so-close to capturing his first PGA Tour victory during the 2021-22 season. He placed second an astonishing five times, including a runner-up finish at the 150th Open Championship at St. Andrews.

However, he didn’t place second when it came to the Arnold Palmer Award. Young was named the Tour’s Rookie of the Year, it was announced Wednesday. He beat fellow finalists Sahith Theegala and Tom Kim for the distinction.

The 25-year-old who went to college at Wake Forest also placed second at the Sanderson Farms Championship, The Genesis Invitational, Wells Fargo Championship and Rocket Mortgage Classic. He also finished T-3 at the PGA Championship at Southern Hills. He was one of two rookies (Theegala) to qualify for the Tour Championship at East Lake.

Young made 18 cuts in 25 starts and brought home $6.52 million. He won twice on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2021, which helped him secure his Tour card for his rookie season.

His play also earned him a spot on the United States team at the 2022 Presidents Cup at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. He went 1-2-1.

Scottie Scheffler won the Tour’s Jack Nicklaus Award, which is given to the Player of the Year.  He and Young are paired together for the first two rounds in the 2022 CJ Cup in South Carolina at Congaree Golf Club, which begins Thursday.
