Cameron Jordan comes to the defense of… Mike Evans?

Huh. There’s something you don’t see every day. New Orelans Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan is known for his active presence on social media, often standing up for his teammates — and, apparently, sometimes his opponents.

Jordan responded to a fan’s criticism of Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans by stumping for the cheap-shot artist. Evans is better known for starting fights than catching touchdown passes in games with the Saints (for which he’s banned for life from one of New Orleans’ finest barbecue restaurants), but Jordan set all that aside to highlight Evans’ on-field efforts.

“Anybody who think Mike Evans ain worth the hype must hate stats… or is a casual that never watches him. men lie women lie #’s don’t mike evans a 10k wr has produced 1k+ every season (sic),” Jordan wrote.

The way he sees it, Evans’ stats tell the story. Jordan pointed to his larger body of work as a receiver with 10,000-plus career receiving yards as a milestone achievement, as well as Evans’ consistency in putting up 1,000 or more yards in each of the nine years he’s played.

Props to Jordan for recognizing a good player when he sees one. We’ll see if Evans returns the favor when the Saints visit Tampa Bay on Oct. 1.
