Cameron Diaz discusses nerves over imminent return to acting after un-retiring

Cameron Diaz has lifted the lid on her experience coming back from retirement to star in a new action comedy alongside Jamie Foxx.

The 50-year-old actress stunned fans when she announced she had quit acting in 2018 - with her last screen outing being back in 2014 with the Will Gluck directed version of Annie.

But this year, Cammy will be seen back in front of cameras in the upcoming Netflix film Back in Action - reuniting her with 54-year-old Jamie, who also starred in Annie.

Cameron was a guest on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon on Friday night where she discussed how she found her feet getting back into acting.

Asked if she was nervous or excited about her return, she told the host: "I'm both. It's a little bit of muscle memory, you know what I mean? It's sort of like I did that for so long, it's kind of like the process, I kind of just fell back into it. But it feels a little bit different."

Cameron also explained that she was excited to be back on set with Jamie.

She said: “I’ve also made two movies with Jamie, which is amazing. ... The last movie I made was 'Annie' with Jamie, and so the first movie back is this film with Jamie.

“So, it's amazing. He's so great, he's so easy, he's so professional, he's so talented, and just being able to work with him, it'll be so much fun."

Last month, Jamie explained how he helped coax Cameron out of retirement as he approached her to discuss making a film together.

He told Entertainment Tonight: "It was literally, 'Do you wanna have some fun? Just have some fun!' And I think that's what brought her to it.

“Cameron is such an incredible force and she has done so much in this business. We love her."

He added: “We miss special moments sometimes, in our business, and I think this is a special moment. So we're so happy that it's happening and looking forward to it."

Back in 2017, Cameron hinted that she wouldn’t continue acting as she had become tired with the travelling that was involved with the job.

She also explained that she wanted to focus on parenting - having become a mother in 2019 with the arrival of her daughter, Raddix, who she shares with 43-year-old rock star husband Benji Madden.

She told USA Today previously: “Everybody only has 100 percent and you always have to figure out how you’re going to divide that 100 percent to spread it to all that parts of your life that matter.

“I think just being able to, you know, have an influence on a child that's developing. All mothers have that moment where you're watching your child and they're doing something for the first time, and you're like, 'I remember doing that.' It's really cool.”
