Cameron Carter-Vickers shock USA squad omission as Celtic defender's exclusion sparks fury

Cameron Carter-Vickers has been a surprise omission from the USA national team as the squad was announced today.

The American side will restart their CONCACAF Nations League campaign at the end of the month with fixtures against Grenada and El Salvador but the Celtic star has NOT been included in the 24-man squad. Carter-Vickers has been a rock at the back for Ange Postecoglou's men this season with the Aussie boss even claiming the 25-year-old to be the best defender in the Scottish league.

Yet the former Spurs man is nowhere to be seen in the roster announcement, as Parkhead pals Reo Hatate and Kyogo Furuhashi also suffered a similar fate with the Japan squad decision. Carter-Vickers was present at the World Cup for the USA but interim head coach Anthony Hudson shed some light on why certain players were omitted.

He said: "There are a number of guys who are dealing with varying degrees of injury issues. We’ve spoken with the clubs, and in each case we have worked together to make a decision in the best interest of the player and to do our best to ensure they are available for us this summer."

Yet fans of the national side are not pleased, one wrote: "Another day of pretending someone like Auston Trusty is better than Cameron Carter-Vickers. I hate this team and I hate this manager so much."

Another added: "Stinks Cameron Carter-Vickers, the best CB in Scotland this season, doesn’t get a nod."

"There is literally zero excuses to have Miles Robinson in over Cameron Carter Vickers. Could have brought Miles in for April", one added.

Reporter Brian Sciaretta stated: "Cameron Carter-Vickers is another player not here. Hudson will probably be asked about him. He has played an absolute ton. I think after Ream, he leads minutes played since August."
