Cameron Carter-Vickers makes final Tottenham transfer decision as he drops big Celtic hint

Cameron Carter-Vickers has confirmed "it's time to move on permanently" from Tottenham after such a successful season at Celtic. Heading out on loan from Spurs six times prior to the 2021/22 campaign, the 24-year-old departed for a seventh time on the final day of the summer transfer window after sealing a season-long loan switch to Celtic Park.

A major part of Ange Postecoglou's backline as he made 45 appearances in total and helped Celtic to the Scottish Premiership title and League Cup, Carter-Vickers has reportedly attracted interest from Premier League clubs although Celtic are in the driving seat for his signature due to a transfer clause in the deal they struck with Tottenham. Now facing a key decision as he is at the age where he needs to be playing regular football week in, week out, the United States international appears to have made up his mind and has revealed the discussions he's had with Celtic over the course of the season.

"I have really enjoyed it at Celtic. We were good to watch and an enjoyable team to play in. I am 24 now and want to be somewhere where I can settle for a few years," he told The Scottish Sun. "Me and my agent have been talking to the club throughout the season about what’s going to happen at the end of the season. But obviously, it’s not just my decision. Celtic have to come to some kind of agreement with Tottenham so it’s not completely in my hands.

"I just want to be somewhere playing football. If I’m being completely honest, I think it’s time to move on permanently. I’m happy with last season. I really enjoyed my time there.

"But what will happen in the future? I’m not too sure. Will I go back? You never know. I just want to be somewhere where I enjoy my football and get on with the manager. The manager at Celtic is a top manager who wants to play out of the back and keep possession, which suits me."

Following mixed spells with Sheffield United, Ipswich Town, Swansea City and Stoke City, Carter-Vickers really caught the eye during his time with Luton Town and Bournemouth before moving north of the border. Despite the uncertainty over exactly where he would be heading each season, the centre-back enjoyed the different challenges that came his way.

"It’s been kind of difficult to keep going out on loan," he added. "But it’s been good for me as well. I feel I really have improved as a player and person. And in a way, it’s almost fun to kind of have a new challenge every year."
