Cameron Carter-Vickers has not travelled to the Spanish capital for the final European match of the season for Celtic.
It's set to be a huge night on Wednesday despite it being a dead-rubber match, with Ange Postecoglou's men closing out their Champions League Group F campaign against the tournament holders. American international Carter-Vickers has already missed out on some matches in this section that the Hoops are looking to exit with more than two points.
They will have to do so without their defender, who has stood up as a stand-in captain in the wake of skipper Callum McGregor's injury. It's been a hectic period for Celtic amid their European campaign on top of their domestic matters, and they have four more matches including their Spanish assignment before this month's World Cup break. Carter-Vickers is a contender to go with the USA to the tournament in Qatar but will need to prove fitness to do so.

Postecoglou said of the injured leader: "Squad-wise from the weekend (v Livingston), it's just Cameron Carter-Vickers.
"He pulled up a bit sore from the game on Sunday. The artificial pitch wasn't great for him so we have left him at home.
"Everyone else apart from Callum McGregor, obviously, is fit and available so we are looking forward to it."
