Cameron Archer Watford transfer update ahead of Aston Villa taking on Bolton Wanderers

Aston Villa youngster Cameron Archer could be in the reckoning to face Bolton Wanderers tomorrow evening in the Carabao Cup after it was reported a potential loan move to Watford fell through.

Wanderers host the Premier League side at the University of Bolton Stadium with a place in the third round up for grabs. The reward for victory in the televised clash could be facing a top flight team involved in European competitions such as Liverpool or Manchester City.

Like Bolton, Villa go into the game on the back of a defeat. Gerrard's side suffered a 3-1 loss at the hands of Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday, which leaves them 13th in the Premier League table.

Speculation surrounds the future of promising Villa striker Archer, who dazzled in the second half of last season on loan at Preston North End in the Championship. There is the potential he could be heading to Watford on loan.

It was reported that Archer could have headed to Watford as part of a deal that would see Ismaila Sarr move to Aston Villa. Archer would head to the Hornets on loan along with Kourtney Hause.

However, the Telegraph's John Percy now reports that the Sarr deal to Villa, which would have seen Archer and Courtney Hause heading to the Hornets on loan, is set to fall through. The deal's structure and Sarr's personal terms are claimed to be the stumbling blocks and the transfers could now be dead in the water.

Percy wrote on Twitter: "Ismaila Sarr’s £25m move to #avfc set to fall through. Talks over the weekend included Cameron Archer & Kortney Hause joining #Watford on loan, but issues emerged with structure of the deal (including Sarr’s personal terms). At this stage, unlikely to be resurrected."
