Cameras caught the Ravens’ Arthur Maulet throwing a punch in pregame exchange with Chiefs players

The Kansas City Chiefs have made six straight trips to the AFC title game. They know that emotions are high before the game. The Ravens, though, are playing in their first AFC title game in 11 years. It’s all new to them.

And it didn’t take long to see the Ravens lose their cool.

As players were warming up before Sunday’s game, Ravens cornerback Arthur Maulet exchanged some words with Chiefs players. When officials and coaches tried to intervene to separate Maulet from the scrum, cameras caught Maulet throwing a punch (or open-handed slap) to the face of the Chiefs’ Jaylen Watson.

It was unclear if Maulet was assessed any penalty for the shot to an opponent’s face — even though it took place before the game. Either way, it was the kind of altercation that could set the tone for a heated game in Baltimore.

Fans also had thoughts on the pregame fireworks.
