Camden Town Brewery is inviting beer fans to swap their old clothes for cans of their new IPA, in partnership with leading waste charity TRAID.

The Camden Chilly TRAID Off event invites people to donate clothing to encourage more sustainable shopping this winter.

According to Camden Town Brewery and TRAID, more than 300,000 tonnes of clothing end up in landfill every year in the UK, and it is estimated that 40 per cent is in a reusable condition.

TRAID’s research has also found that there are 1.6 billion pieces of unworn clothing in UK wardrobes.

To help fight this clothing waste, Londoners can donate their preloved clothes for a good cause – and free beer.

The clothes-swap event will take place at the Camden Beer Hall, in London, on November 16, from noon until 4 pm.

There’s also an event at Victoria Leeds, Sidney Street, on November 15, and another at Manchester’s Trafford Centre on November 1, from noon to 4pm

In return for donating unwanted clothes, beer fans will receive cans of Camden Town Brewery’s new Cold IPA, called Chilly, which will only be available during the winter months.

Jose Baladron, TRAID’s recycling development manager, said: “We’re delighted to be partnering with Camden Town Brewery to keep clothes in use for longer.

“Our wardrobes are full of clothes we no longer wear or need and extending the life of the clothes we already have is one of the most environmentally beneficial things we can do to reduce our waste, water, and carbon footprints.”

Fred Nesbitt, head of marketing at Camden Town Brewery, said: “We are so excited to be working with TRAID again for the Camden Chilly TRAID Off.

“There’s nothing we love more than good beer for a good cause, and we are encouraging Brits to dig deep into the back of their wardrobe this winter, to come down and donate any unwanted coats or jackets in exchange for our freshest new IPA.

“We usually have the pleasure of visiting Manchester and Leeds in summer for our Tank Party Tour, so we are really looking forward to heading on tour this Chilly season instead!”
