Cambuslang Rangers Youth Academy already proving a huge success

Cambuslang Rangers Youth Academy is already proving a huge success with no less than five players already progressing within their system.

Having been taken over by Lanarkshire football stalwarts Stevie Owens and John Sneddon just last year, players Jay Letham, Marc McQuade, Shay Livingston and Anthony Hampson have all came through the Academy's pathway to feature in the first team this season.

Likewise, Cammy McIntyre from the club's 2005 squad has also stepped up a level to play with their U20s side in the last few weeks.

Previously, Scott Williamson, Jay Nelson, Jamie Prete, Ben Richford, Tony Hampson and Lewis Slivinski all stepped up to the Camby first team from the Academy.

Now, with even more young talent emerging within their 05s, 06s, 2010s, 11s, 16s and U20s Owens and Sneddon are keen to help a plethora of Lanarkshire talent progress further within their football journey - something they feel isn't readily available at other clubs.

Stevie told Lanarkshire Live : "Myself and John having taken over the Academy only a matter of months ago have now had a chance to see the best way forward for all.

"For season 22/23 we have already confirmed our new coaching team to take the U20s, 2005, 2006, 2010, 2011 and 2016 squads.

"All these age groups are confirmed for the new season and we are pushing for a 2009 group next which hopefully will come to fruition for the start of the next campaign.

"There is so much talent out there, on our doorstep in Lanarkshire, lads who play for teams for years and years with no real progression, but here we are constantly watching and evolving and talking to our coaches to see who is ready to take the next step with their football.

"We really do provide a fantastic pathway for young players and our coaching is second to none."

As the season starts to wind down with only a handful of games left for each of the Academy's teams, the close season will allow Stevie the chance to find new, enthusiastic coaches who are willing to come on board at some of their new age groups and take their teams forward.

Stevie added; "As well as looking for new coaches for our latest age groups that we are setting up, we are also looking to have a girls/ladies football team within our Academy and would love to speak to any coaches who would be interested in helping us with this."

Next up for Camby is the hope of achieving the SFA seal of approval with a quality mark for their Academy and of course making their dream of installing an astro pitch surface at heir home ground of Somervell Park a huge reality.

Stevie added; "Having an Astro at Somerville Park would be huge for not only Cambuslang Rangers first team and our Youth Academy players but also for other clubs within the community.

"After the installation of our new Academy age groups we will then concentrate on making that our mission. It's fair to say it's all go at Camby."
