Cambuslang Rangers fear they have lost captain Scott Anson for the rest of the season after he slipped a disc in a freak training ground injury.
The Somervell Park club have an already extensive injury list, which includes Kyle Maxwell with a dislocated knee, and having such an important player added to that doesn’t help.
Co-boss Billy Campbell says they don’t yet know the extent of Anson’s injury, but it doesn’t look good.
Cambuslang’s game West of Scotland League Premier Division clash at home to Glenafton was postponed on Saturday due to a frozen
pitch, and they trained instead. Campbell said: “We trained on Saturday and Scott Anson has hurt discs in his back, so we might have lost him.
“He’s going through a hell of a lot of pain just now, he was in hospital on Saturday night until the early hours of Sunday morning.
“He’s got a chiropractor appointment but the chances of him playing aren’t great and we’re worried that we’re going to lose him until the end of the season.
“It’s another set-back and difficult for us again, but from a personal perspective, hopefully he gets himself sorted out, because he was in agony.
“It’s a massive blow to us if we lose him until the end of the season. Hopefully we don’t, but it’s not looking good at all.”
Cambuslang head to Glenafton on Saturday, weather-permitting, and Campbell hopes they can get the game on.
He said: “It’s a bit of a strange run, getting them home and away in two weeks, but we’re down at Glenafton this week. Hopefully the weather eases off, we can get the game on and get back to it.
“We’re at the stages where we need to get some points on the board.
“It’s all right coming off week in, week out, and saying ‘we were unlucky’ or ‘we played well for 60 minutes’ – the bottom line is if you don’t win you don’t get the points, and the table doesn’t lie.
“We’ve said all along that we knew it was going to be a tough gig, but we’ll try all we can and we won’t be giving anything up.”
