Cambuslang Rangers co-boss Paul McColl was frustrated his 10 men were unable to take something from their trip to Troon on Saturday.
The West of Scotland League Premier Division side lost out 1-0 in Ayrshire after Josh Black’s header in the 67th minute was all that separated the sides at Portland Park
Camby’s task was made more difficult when Kyle Maxwell saw red for a second booking 20 minutes from time, but McColl felt his side should have taken their chances to at least get a point out of the contest.
The co-boss, whose side are second bottom of the table with one win in seven games, said: “We deserved a draw, in my opinion.
“Troon are a decent side but we had a couple of good efforts where we should have scored. On another day we’d have taken something but they managed to get their goal.
“There was nothing in it in the first half, and in the second half we both had chances and the difference was they took one of theirs.
“And that’s the story of why we are near the bottom of the table.
“If we can start scoring goals I’m hopeful we will move up the league because we are definitely playing well enough and [sixth-place] Troon are a decent side going well in the league.
“I felt we were a bit unlucky. We didn’t get the decisions. Two tackles and Kyle Maxwell is off the park.
“I wouldn’t say the ref was poor but the sending off killed the game.
“After that we were always going to struggle. His first booking wasn’t a booking, but their centre-half has kicked everything in sight and the ref didn’t book him so it didn’t add up.
“We should be taking our chances and if we do that we’ll win more than we’ll lose in this league.”
Camby are in cup action this weekend when they host Wishaw in the second round of the South Challenge Cup and McColl hopes a positive result can be the catalyst for results in the league.
He added: “We are hoping we can get a win against Wishaw to take into the next league game because if we win a couple of league games, the league is that tight, we could end up mid-table. But we need to start scoring goals and picking up results.
“We’ve given the likes of Cumnock and Auchinleck a game this season so I don’t think we are far away.”
