Cambuslang Rangers co-boss Billy Campbell revealed he read the riot act to his under-performing players after they crashed out of the Scottish Junior Cup at the first hurdle.
The West of Scotland Premier side were beaten 2-1 in the City of Discovery by their Midlands League opponents and the display left a lot to be desired for Campbell and co-boss Paul McColl.
The duo made their feelings know to their players at half-time, but that failed to rally the troops and they were given both barrels at the final whistle as they were knocked out of the tournament.
Campbell fumed: “It was terrible. We are extremely disappointed with the performance and Paul and I made that clear to the players not only at half-time but at full-time as well.
“In the first half we didn’t start well at all and for the first 20-25 minutes we never played like we know we can at all.
“At half-time we told them there were a few below-par performances, let’s raise our game and push on in the second half.
"The Dundee boys were a young hard-working team, playing for every ball, chasing every second ball, so we went into the second half hoping we’d improve but we just didn’t do that.
“And as a result of that, we got the result we deserved on the day.
“We tried to explain how important the Scottish Cup is to the club and how it gives us a break from the league, which will be relentless.
“There’s no cup run now. No getting on the bus, visiting different places and playing different teams.
“All of the great stuff that comes with the Scottish Cup is gone. We are so disappointed. We made that clear to the players - and we didn’t miss them.
“They have not performed at all and there wasn’t one positive performance. I tend to gauge the players out of 10 and there wasn’t anyone near halfway.
“If you turn up and perform like they did, you are going to get beat - and that’s exactly what happened. We got what we deserved because the better team won on the day.”
Camby have started the season poorly as they adapt to life in the top flight after winning Conference B at a canter last term.
And Campbell insists there will be changes when they return to league duty at home to Clydebank on Saturday.
He added: “We had five players missing on Saturday, but in no way is that an excuse for the performance. The boys that played were more than capable of getting a result.
“This Saturday we will be making changes for the Clydebank game and no one can complain about that.
“We can’t feel sorry for ourselves now. We need to get the heads up and focus on Clydebank.”
