Cambuslang Rangers aim to kick on from Hurlford win in cup clash with Newton Stewart

Cambuslang Rangers co-boss Billy Campbell hopes his side can pick up where they left off, as they seek to build on their league win over Hurlford with success in the South Challenge Cup this weekend.

The Somervell Park outfit had a free weekend this week after a bid to arrange a friendlyto build on their 1-0 success over Hurlford on November 5 proved fruitless, and they now host Wigtownshire side Newton Stewart in the thrid round of the cup.

Camby’s triumph in Ayrshire was just their second win in the West of Scotland Premier Division so Campbell was frustrated his side couldn’t get another game under their belts to keep the momentum going.

He said: “We tried two or three teams for a friendly but we never managed to get anything arranged so we just had to train on Saturday.

“That wasn’t what we were hoping for. We were trying to keep that bit of momentum going from the Hurlford game the other week but there’s not much else we could have done.

“We just need to get ourselves prepared now for Newton Stewart in the cup.

“We don’t know too much about them at the moment. They are one of the provincial teams down being there and it will be a wee bit of a journey for them coming up here.

“Sometimes that works for you and sometimes it works against you.

“We’ve been drawn in some strange and remote places in cup competitions down the years and you end up having a right good day of it, so we’ll need to make sure we are ready for them.

“The boys need to make sure they have the same attitude and application as they did in the Hurlford.

“I’m looking forward to it and hopefully we can get through. The squad is okay and we’re not struggling too badly, other than Scott Anson who is out.”
