Cambuslang Harriers take gold medals from Grangemouth Round the Houses 10k

Outstanding runs saw Cambuslang Harriers masters athletes take gold from the Grangemouth Round the Houses 10k last month.

The event, which incorporated the British Masters 10k Championships, saw 15 of the club’s athletes don the red and white vest, with 13 of them winning one or more medals.

Erica Christie, the only female in the group, won the W65 gold medal in 47.12, with the first three W65s all under 48 minutes.

Stevie Wylie had a cracking run to finish in 33.32, winning M50 gold, with Kerry-Liam Wilson claiming silver in 34.36.

Justin Carver won M45 bronze in 35.58, and with back-up from Mark Gallacher in 36.26, the M45-54 gold was secured.

Ian Hodge was fourth M35 in 35.42, and with solid runs from George Pettit (36.56) and Gary Lyon (39.54), they took the M35-44 bronze medals.

M55s Chris Upson (37.07) and Kevin Newberry (37.23) won silver and bronze, respectively.

With Dave Thom taking M60 bronze in 40.13 and Colin Feechan finishing in 41.24, the M55-64 team gold was also in the bag.

Several medals were won by M65+ athletes.

Frankie Barton won M65 silver in 39.18, while Frank Hurley took bronze in 40.45.

Peter Ogden took M70 gold in 53.54, marking over 40 years as a Cambuslang Harriers athlete.

The 10k race also incorporated the Scottish Universities’ 10k Championships, and Glasgow University’s Andrew Carey won gold in a time of 33.16.
