Former NFL quarterback Cam Newton raised eyebrows earlier in December when he labeled San Francisco 49ers star Brock Purdy as a “game manager” rather than a “difference maker.”
Purdy, who entered the 49ers’ Christmas Day tilt against the Baltimore Ravens as the NFL MVP favorite, had a nightmarish evening during which he threw three interceptions in the first half alone, and quickly added a fourth to his tally early into the third quarter.
After Purdy’s third pick of the game, Newton took to X, formerly Twitter, to take a jab at San Francisco’s quarterback.
Newton posted three monocle emoji, indicating his bold take was being proven correct amid the quarterback’s struggles on Monday night.

Entering Monday’s game, Purdy had just seven interceptions all season. Despite a prolific first 14 games of the campaign, Newton still hadn’t bought into the hype surrounding the former seventh-round pick.
Newton, a former MVP in his own right, received significant criticism for calling Purdy, as well as other quarterbacks such as Dak Prescott, Tua Tagovailoa, and Jared Goff, game managers. He stood his ground and made sure to offer a quick reminder of his comments after Purdy’s third interception of the first half.
While Purdy was having a dreadful holiday, during which he potentially cost himself a shot at the MVP award, Newton seemed to be enjoying the meltdown from the 49ers quarterback.
