Calvin Ramsay to Liverpool transfer agreed as stance on more summer deals emerges

Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign Calvin Ramsay from Aberdeen for an initial £4m.

The ECHO understands the Reds will pay an upfront fee along with a further £2.5m in add-ons, made up of player performance and team achievement targets, with the 18-year-old currently set to undergo a medical at the weekend at the earliest.

Assuming there is no problem with the teenager’s medical, he will sign a five-year contract with Liverpool and will be with Jurgen Klopp’s first team for pre-season. There, the Reds will assess the defender and give him a proper opportunity to stake his claim and integrate with the squad.

Anfield insiders expect Ramsay’s arrival to conclude Liverpool’s incoming summer business, with the club feeling that by signing the defender, Darwin Nunez and Fabio Carvalho, they have signed exactly what they felt they needed and wanted.

A new midfielder is currently the Reds’ transfer priority for summer 2023, with Jude Bellingham known to be of interest, with club sources insisting that outgoings will not alter that stance as things stand.

Ramsay broke into the Aberdeen side last season as he made 33 appearances, scoring one goal and recording nine assists with his performances earning him the SWFA Young Player of the Year award. A Scotland Under-21s international, he also featured for the Scottish outfit in the Europa Conference League.

Liverpool were impressed with Aberdeen’s conduct throughout negotiations, with Director of Football Steve Gunn and Chairman Dave Cormack proving to be very co-operative and communicating well throughout discussions as the Reds upped their initial valuation of the player, with the agreed add-ons deemed sensible.

While a deal has been agreed with Aberdeen, confirmation is not imminent with Ramsay still in Scotland and a medical unable to take place until the weekend at the earliest.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have received an approach from League One side Bolton Wanderers to take Conor Bradley on loan from the 2022/23 season. A deal has not yet been agreed for the Northern Ireland international but Reds bosses are considering it, with a switch to the North West side deemed to make a lot of sense and discussions currently ongoing.
